Weekend teams and predictions

Struth Bob, does it come much tougher than this? Catch the weekend’s teams, times, collated odds, SuperBru community picks and both Tank Lanning and Joel Stransky’s predictions.

Tank Lanning

Another six game weekend, but with four SA sides in action in four different games, along with the absolute cracker that is the Canes vs Chiefs on Saturday morning, you are going to have to work pretty hard for the pink tickets needed to get all five onto your rugby watching programme. This is what is on the menu:

Friday, May 15 2015

09:35 – Blues vs Bulls (Eden Park, Auckand)

11:40 – Reds vs Rebels (Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane)

Saturday, May 16 2015

09:35 – Hurricanes vs Chiefs (Westpac Stadium, Wellington)

11:40 – Waratahs vs Sharks (Allianz Stadium, Sydney)

17:05 – Lions vs Brumbies (Ellis Park, Johannesburg)

19:10 – Cheetahs vs Highlanders (Free State Stadium, Bloemfontein)

And just when we thought it was getting easy, along comes a fixture list like that! Hells Bells. Anyone who pulls in a SuperBru GSP this weekend should have to wear his or her undies outside their pants at work on Monday!

So how are the 2015 Bulls side going to tour? A victory over the 13th-placed Blues would see them move to the top of the SA conference, usurping the Stormers nn their bye weekend. The Pretoria side suffered four defeats on last year’s tour. Can Pierre Spies inspire is merry men to better things this year? After a fairly unlucky loss against the table toppers last week, can the Sharks go full circle against one of the better balanced sides in the tournament? They have picked the exact same side as last week, again being forced to pick 2 hookers on the bench. The Lions, as they have been all season, were heroic in their comeback against the Highlanders last week. Will the more organised Brumbies allow them as much freedom on the park? While in Bloem it is likely to be a try-fest of note as the two sides who focus more on counter attack than defence go head to head. Always tricky to call those Harlem Globetrotter type extravaganzas!

The Bookies and the Brus disagree on just the one game this weekend, with the Saffer heavy Brus backing the Lions to pip the Brumbies. But it’s pretty damn tight on all 6 games.

Guest predictor this week is 1995 Rugby World Cup hero Joel Stransky. Known as “Stranners” on the Bru, he and I are scrapping with another flyhalf, Andrew Mehrtens, for 4th place on the Legends leaderboard. In 1st place currently is Mils Muliaina, while AJ Venter and Breyton Paulse, both 3.75 points back, are fighting for second place.

I have gone quite heavy on the “Upset” guessing, calling all of the Blues, Reds and Lions to win their respective games, while Joel has gone the more conservative route and backed the bookies. It really is about calling all pockets!

My predictions:

BLUES to beat Bulls by 5

REDS to beat Rebels by 7

HURRICANES to beat Chiefs by 4

WARATAHS to beat Sharks by 7

LIONS to beat Brumbies by 3
