When it comes to rugby, everyone has an opinion, but how many can substantiate that opinion with fact? The new Vodacom Rugby Stats App will change post match banter forever!

Developed by New Media Publishing, and based on an idea by ex Sports Illustrated editor Ami Kapilevitch, I am pretty chuffed to have played a small part in putting together the new Vodacom Rugby Stats App – which hit Android and Apple app stores last Friday ( with Blackberry just needing to approve the submission before that too goes live).
From Try Assists to Clean Breaks, Missed Tackles and more, the Vodacom Rugby Stats App allows us fans to keep up to date with the kind of cutting-edge game analysis previously reserved only for the coaching and technical staff of professional teams.
Updated every 90 seconds using data from Opta, throughout the Super Rugby season, an array of the most in-depth statistics in the game will take the rugby conversation around a braai to an entirely new level.
“We consulted with fans and investigated what it was that they wanted. And we are bringing to you world-class innovation in an App that will transform the way supporters consume rugby”, says Mzamo Masito, Managing Executive of Vodacom.
So the Cheetahs have had an up down start to their season, with Willie le Roux an obvious leading light for the Bloem boys, but do you know that he leads both the “Kick’s caught” and “Kicks from hand” stats this year?
You probably also know that Israel Folau has had a pretty damn impressive start to the season, but do you know how good? Check out his page on the app:
Stats available on the Vodacom Rugby Stats App:
Carries, Conversions, Defenders beaten, Drop goals, Points scored, Metres run, Tackles made & missed, Clean breaks, Handling errors, Turnovers won & lost, Kicks from hand, Knock-ons, Lineouts won & lost, Minutes played, Offloads, Passes, Penalties conceded, Red & Yellow cards, Tries & Try assists.
“The App extends the game beyond the 80-minute play period and gives people the kind of information they’ve always wanted to truly analyse the game on social media or over a beer with their mates,” says Ami …
A quick “How to” vid put together by the Vodacom Now! Team:
But there is MORE! By downloading the App and registering on the “FUN” screen, you will be automatically entered into the draw to win a trip for you and 4 mates on the popular Vodacom SuperGees Fan Tour at the end of the season. This being an all-expenses paid trip to the 2014 Vodacom SupeRugby Final, wherever in the world that may be. And if the Final is in South Africa, no expense will be spared on creating the rugby experience of a lifetime.
It really is a game-changer in mobile sports content, and a huge step toward that much talked about “Second screen” … So instead of inane Tweets during a game that might echo others or the commentators, now one can make a meaningful contribution using the live stats from the app!
Available for iOS and Android. BlackBerry coming soon. For more info and to download the app, CLICK HERE

After just one week, and very little in the way of above-the-line marketing, this app is already ranked #2 in SA sports app downloads – beating Superbru and Super XV, and even Ultimate Rugby (which is a great little app). So it bodes well.
