Pumas cited for biting and gouging

Argentina loose forwards Leonardo Senatore and Pablo Matera have been cited for alleged foul play on Francois Louw (eye gouge) and Eben Etzebeth (biting).

Senatore is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (m) Acts contrary to good sportsmanship when he allegedly bit Eben Etzebeth. The incident occurred in the 61st minute of the match between Argentina and South Africa at Estadio Malvinas Argentinas in Mendoza on Saturday.

Matera is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (m) Acts contrary to good sportsmanship when he allegedly made contact with the eyes of Francois Louw in the 45th minute.

Upon further review of the match footage the citing commissioner deemed in his opinion both incidents had met the red card threshold for foul play.

The citings will be considered in the first instance by SANZAR Duty Judicial Officer Adam Casselden.

All SANZAR disciplinary matters are in the first instance referred to a Duty Judicial Officer hearing to provide the option of expediting the judicial process.

For a matter to be dispensed with at this hearing, the person appearing must plead guilty and accept the penalty offered by the DJO.
