Steyn in the dock

Sharks centre Francois Steyn has been cited for alleged foul play during their Super Rugby match against the Chiefs on Saturday.

Steyn is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (h) A player must not charge into a ruck or maul. Charging includes making contact without use of the arms, or without grasping a player.

The incident occurred in the 78th minute when he made contact with Tim Nanai-Williams. Upon further review of the match footage the Citing Commissioner deemed in his opinion the incident had met the red card threshold for foul play.

The citing is to be considered in the first instance by SANZAR duty judicial Officer Nicholas Davidson QC.

  1. Frans is starting to resemble a primadonna football player. Always complaining to the ref, shaking his head, displeased with something or other.
Clearly his mind is not right, both on and off the field. What professional athlete can afford to be overweight and get away with it. Its one thing to fall out of confidence but with Frans its something more insidious… Seems more like over-confidence and dare I say entitlement given all he achieved at such a young age.
Get him off the team, to train and diet for 1 month and rethink what he wants out of life and hopefully he will come back with the passion and commitment needed from all Springboks. I would love to see how HM treats him come mid-year Tests
