Willem Alberts, who has missed the Sharks warm up games because of rehab to his shoulder, will undergo a small surgical procedure to the same shoulder on Tuesday.
It has been confirmed that he will be out for four weeks.
The Sharks are well-covered in most positions, but with captain Keegan Daniel out for 6 weeks, this will test the Durban based squad. The loose trio will now have to be be picked from Jacques Botes, Marcell Coetzee, Jean Deysel, Lubabalo Mtembu, and Ryan Kankowski.
Having come through their second preparation match over the weekend, The Sharks feel that they are now ready for the start of the competition. “The game against the Pumas was the hit-out and physicality we needed after what we had against the Leopards which wasn’t a really physical match,” explained assistant coach Hugh Reece-Edwards to the Sharks website.
“That physicality was right up there with anything we’ll experience in Super Rugby this season,” continued Reece-Edwards … Not sure about that last bit Hugh!
