Introducing … Martin Bezuidenhout

With regular hookers Scarra Ntubeni and Tiaan Liebenberg injured, Martin Bezuidenhout – on loan from the Lions, gets a run at hooker …

With Schalk Burger (calf), Jean de Villiers (neck), and Deon Fourie (quad) out the mix, Duane Vermeulen will captain the Stormers this Saturday in their warm-up match against the Cheetahs.

Burger and De Villiers should be fine for the game against Boland on the 9th, this obviously key for Burger, recently named Stormers captain for the season, given that he has not played a competitive game in 12 months because of a serious knee injury.

Up front, with regular hookers Scarra Ntubeni and Tiaan Liebenberg only likely to return in about six weeks’ time, Martin Bezuidenhout – on loan from the Lions, gets a run at hooker.

Stormers – 15 Jaco Taute, 14 Gio Aplon, 13 Juan de Jongh, 12 Damian de Allende, 11 Bryan Habana, 10 Kurt Coleman, 9 Louis Schreuder, 8 Duane Vermeulen (c), 7 Don Armand, 6 Nizaam Carr, 5 De Kock Steenkamp, 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Frans Malherbe, 2 Martin Bezuidenhout, 1 Steven Kitshoff.
Bench: 16 Stephan Coetzee, 17 Pat Cilliers, 18 Ruan Botha, 19 Michael Rhodes, 20 Rayn Smid, 21 Dewaldt Duvenage, 22 Pat Howard, 23 Gerhard van den Heever, 24 Joe Pietersen.

“Martin seems to have what we were looking for at the Stormers,” said Stormers coach Allister Coetzee at a recent press breifing.

“He’s fitting in well and has a tremendous work rate. He’ll stay with us for as long as we need him.”

Meanwhile … Naka Drotske has made 12 changes to the team that lost to the Lions last week.

Fullback Hennie Daniller, wing Jannie Boshoff and loose forward Boom Prinsloo are the only survivors, meaning that Adriaan Strauss returns to lead the team. It will be fun to see Johann Sadie get a run, while Riaan Smit and  Sarel Pretorius create a new halfback combination. Interestingly … Rayno Benjamin is selected at inside centre.

Flyhalf Johan Goosen and prop Coenie Oosthuizen continue to be kept in cotton wool …
