  1. My top 5 tries for the last 2 decades (in no particular order):

Pieter Hendricks vs Aus (RWC 95)
Ricky Januarie vs NZ (Tri Nations 08)
Bob Skinstad vs Aus (Tri Nations 98)
Richard Bands vs NZ (Tri Nations 03)
Jacque Fourie vs B&I Lions (2nd Test 09)

  2. I would say Pieter Hendriks’ try against Australia in the opening match of the 1995 RWC. It was a great try with Hendriks rounding the great Campese and I think that was the moment everybody started believing in this Bok team, definitely a turning point in the match and the entire ’95 RWC. I was only 11 at the time, but I can still vividly recall the try and the all round jubilation when Hendriks went outside Campo.

  3. It’s got to be Marius Joubert’s hat-trick against the All Blacks in 2004. Pick any of the three!

  4. Richard Bands against the All Blacks in Dunedin 2003. Because there is no better sight than a prop bursting through, sprinting 45meters, putting a fancy flyhalf on his rear end & diving over for the try

  5. PERCY MONTGOMEY TRY VS AUSTRALIA AT LOFTUS (1997) WHERE HE PLAYED CENTRE AND WE BEAT AUSTARLIA BY 61-22 THATS MY FAVOURITE OF ALL TIME!!

  6. Hennie Le Roux’s try against England 11 June 1994.
That was my first international match I attended as well. It was a superb try

  7. Ricky Januarie’s 2008 chip-kick and gather try against the All Blacks – and Richard Band’s 2003 Fatman try – because scoring tries against the All Blacks in the House of Pain is always awesome.

  8. Pieter Roussouw scoring off a set move at scrum time against the All Blacks in Wellington in the 1998 Tri- Nations, skinning Zinzan Brooke on the inside from a short inside pass from Honiball. As far as the story goes, the backs chatted about the move at a coffee shop and drew the move on a napkin. BRILLIANT

  9. Ricky Januarie’s try against the All Blacks in 2008. It was a game winning try, not only against the Kiwi’s but in their fortress of a ground in their back yard.

  10. When Pieter Hendriks ran round the great Campo in the opening match of ’95 World Cup I was a junior clerk and was “allowed” in the company lounge to watch the game with the Seniors. I erupted like a volcano when he scored and can still remember that my then CEO looked at me with a clear showing of disapproval towards my outburst and asked if I was always this load. I told him that I did not only cheer for the try but that I already then knew the cup would be ours. Needless to say I was never again invited to watch a game where he was present but it did not bother me as we took the cup as I predicted. So yes that try of Hendriks is my favourite and most memorable!!

  11. Richard Bands try against the All Blacks in Dunedin 2003. Legendary!!!

  12. I know you said favourite bok try but this was the day I fell in love with rugby. My dad had a recording on tape of the North vs South match and I remember Danie Gerber and Carel du Plessis played for the South. The try that Carel scored that day and one Gerber scored against the Irish, basically side-stepping the entire team is what has always stood out in my rugby brain

  13. Oh man, so many good ones!

The one I can watch over and over again is Ricky Januarie’s try in the 2008 Tri-nations!
    Just unbelievable!

  14. Bob Skinstad’s cheeky ‘backhand dummy’ v. Aus (tongue sticking out and all!).

  15. The best Springbok try I ever witnessed has most certainly got to be when the “Rolls Royce” of Fullbacks Andre Joubert took a quick throw-in around his own 22m area in what can only be described as an American Football pass to arguably the best and most consistent Springbok Fullback of the modern rugby era, Percy Montgomery. At the time Percy played Outside Centre. I believe he scored 2 tries in that match against Australia in Pretoria on 23 August 1997.

The try itself was a beauty, but what made the try so special is that it happened at a time when Australia was a really strong team (see below) and the referee in that game was none other than the infamous Paddy O’Brien (New Zealand).

Australia: Stephen Larkham; Ben Tune, Jason Little, James Holbeck, Joe Roff; David Knox, George Gregan; Andrew Blades, Michael Foley, Richard Harry, John Langford, Owen Finegan, Matt Cockbain, David Wilson (capt), Troy Coker

    Replacements: Toutai Kefu, Brett Robinson

  16. It has to be Bobby Skinstad’s try versus the Wallabies in the decider of the 98 Tri-Nations.

  17. The try by Danie Gerber against the NZ Cavaliers in 1986, after receiving the ball from Carel du Plessis after a great run and great hands from the backline that included Naas Botha and Michael du Plessis

  18. My personal favourite is Jacques Fourie against the British & Irish Lions, second game of the series. The most incredible finish (bumping off the anti-hero of the series Ronan O’Gara), miraculously staying in touch and all apparently while half-blind in his left eye.

  19. DANIE GERBER against Irish 1981. absolutely brilliant with all skills showing. I hope willie le roux gets there.

  20. Pieter Hendriks at 1995 opening world cup game vs Australia. Made us believe!
