Hi Tank, I was a bit disappointed with Marler’s scrumming at 1 against Jannie duP. When Jannie had to be subbed by Coenie Oosthuizen, I was quite worried but Coenie handled himself very well. He performed like a real “tighthead” (I know it was only for 2 scrums) and Marler couldn’t do anything with Coenie. I guess our concerns for not having a tighthead on the bench were unfounded – having said that, the English’s replacement at loosehead was very poor IMO.
Against the AllBlacks with the brothers Frank as well as Woodcock, it’ll be a different challenge though on our tighthead side
Yes, I was very impressed with Coenie at 3, and suprised. Might have been a good idea to have left him there as a real Test, so we know if he can handle that spot for a while. He impresses round the park and makes an impact so a good bench option if he can play 3. Marler no slouch, but Bok pack operated well as a unit yesterday
I think that HM would have been pleased with that – he now has a base to work off. Already their were signs of his influence coming through. His one real concern must be that M Steyn is out of form with regards to goal kicking. M Steyn at 45% is unheard of even taking into consideration that Kings Park is one of the most difficult grounds to kick when the wind is blowing.
I got it wrong with Alberts – he was outstanding. Coetzee had a very good debut. Have not seen Habana display that high intensity since he played under HM at the Bulls. Thought Pienaar looked like the RP of old, before he joined the Sharks. I was disappointed with B Du Plessis. Probably Spies’s best game of the year but still way below par. I do hope HM starts with Lambie in the next test. There are some very positive signs that this could be a very succesful 4 year tenure even though the AB’s looked like they just carried on from where they left off last year. Interesting that of the 8 teams playing yesterday, 4 had the 7 as the captain.
Hallo Tank – bietjie Afrikaans kan mos maar? Ruan Pienaar was strate beter as Hougie. Vinniger diens en beter besluitneming EN beter taktiese skopwerk. Hy moet Saterdag begin.
Keep up the good work Tank – nice to read knowledgeable stuff (almost) every visit to your blog.
Christo
Baie dankie Christo … Lekker om saam to praat …
