S15 TV viewership – RD 3

A look at the DStv numbers for round 3 of Super Rugby …
Some key observations and notes to be aware of …

  • There were 3 games featuring SA teams during Round 3, including the 1st overseas game featuring the Brumbies against the Cheetahs.
  • Viewership picked up from Round 2 (+ 2.1%), but is still lower compared to Round 1, largely due to fact that there was only one SA derby match, and Stormers having a bye.
  • Viewership of games featuring international teams only was the highest during Round 3, with 306,054 viewers watching the Reds v Rebels game. This is pretty good considering the timeslot on a Saturday morning, and emphasizes the fact that the Aussie Saturday morning slot is a good one from an SA viewing perspective.
  • The Stormers v Sharks game in Round 2 remains on top with an average audience of 776,330 viewers, followed by the Bulls v Blues game with an average audience of 715,660 viewers, showing the dominance this year of the 7pm Saturday night fixture.
