Castle Cape Town Tens, she is here …
A little nitty gritty for those new to the sport:
2012 sees the number of teams increased from 56 to 78, divided into four divisions – a heavy and light social Beer League, The Vets League (over 35’s) and the more competitive Premier League.
For each match a team shall comprise a squad of up to 15 players in the Premier Division, and up to 18 players for the Vets and Beer Divisions. In the Premier Division, squad size for the tournament is limited to 18 players.
*Unlimited interchange of players is allowed during course of matches.
*All games (incl. finals) are 9 mins each half. Half time is 1.5 mins.
* Rules for the tournament shall follow the spirit of the laws for Seven-a-side, i.e.:
(a) The team that scores shall restart;
(b) All kicks at goal and at the kick-off shall be drop kicks;
(c) All infringements by a team taking a kick-off/restart shall result in a free-kick to the opposition.
*The scrum must have five players from each team at all times. If a team is reduced to fewer than 10 players, then the numbers of players in the scrum must be similarly reduced in each team. A team must not have fewer than three players in the scrum. No player in the scrum is allowed to pick up the ball, and locks must bind between the hooker and props as in 15-man scrums.
*All scrums are contested, unless otherwise agreed between the two teams, or instructed by the referee.
*If a team elects to take a penalty kick at goal, a drop kick must be used and must be taken within 40 seconds of the nomination to kick at goal.
*A player sent off (i.e. red card) by a referee for foul play will not play again in the tournament. For other red card offences, it will be at the discretion of the organisers as to the “suspension” to be served.
*A player who is sent to the sin bin will be suspended from play for three minutes of actual playing time. The player shall return to his team bench and await permission to rejoin the game after the three minutes of playing time has expired.
*All touch judges and referees are appointed by the Western Province Rugby Union.
*The rules of the tournament – including the interpretation and any additional rules – are at the sole discretion of the tournament organisers, whose decision shall be final.

*If 2 or more teams end on level points –
-team scoring most tries is the winner, if that equal,
-most converted tries determines the winner, if that equal,
-team with best for/against points diff. determines the winner.
*In the event of a tie in any quarter final, semi-final, or Plate final, the winner is determined by which side finished higher in the pool standings (as per above).
*In the event of a tie in any Cup Final, sudden death extra time is played, and the team scoring first is deemed the winner. The side that kicked off first at the start of normal play, will do so in extra-time.
